Fumie Shibata was born in Yamanashi, Japan.
She has collaborated with numerous Japanese and international brands, working in various sectors: furniture, homewares, specialized healthcare technologies, and creative direction for exclusive capsule hotels. Her work is characterized by using soft, precise forms and designs, designed to resonate with the user.
Many of her projects have received international recognition, including the EDIDA LIGHTING CATEGORY PRODUCTS AWARDS in 2021. Other awards include the DFA Design for Asia Awards Grand Prize, the iF Design Award Gold Prize, and the Red Dot Design Award.
She is also a member of the JAPAN DESIGN COMMITTEE, a professor at Tama Art University, and chaired the jury of the Good Design Awards from 2018 to 2019. She is the author of the book "Forms within Forms."
